Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year is celebrated on the first day of the lunar calendar with each year ushering in a zodiac animal ruling sign. For year 2015, it is the year of Goat. St Anne's Festival

Hungry Ghost Festival

During the Seventh Lunar Month, the Chinese community believes that the Gates of Hell are opened on the fifteenth night for spirits and ghosts to visit the living. This festival is celebrated on a grand scale in Penang by the Chinese community with the setting up of a temporary stage where giant joss sticks are lit and food items are offered to the spirits and ghosts. A series of entertainment like opera performances and puppet shows will also be staged for spirits, ghosts and the public at night.

Nine Emperor Gods Festival

Celebrated on the first until the ninth day of the ninth month in the lunar calendar, the Nine Emperor Gods Festival is celebrated annually by Taoists.
