CPR and Bronze Medallion Safety Training for Staff

Malaysia - At the newly renovated Parkroyal Penang, the importance of training and development of its employees is recognised, and constant training programmes are planned to ensure that members of staff are highly knowledgeable in excellent safety skills and, most importantly, in providing good quality service for guests.

A two-week long CPR (Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation) and Bronze Medallion training was recently conducted by the Resort's Assistant Activities Manager Fauzi bin Hj Mohd Yacob together with his Activities Coordinator Ahmad Fazli Mahamat at its premises. The one-week practical training included a refresher course, Examiner - Grade 1 and Life Saving Society Malaysia (LSSM), which was conducted at the gymnasium. The theory training was given for those who were trained in CPR previously in order for them to obtain a Bronze Medallion Certificate.

Following the theory training was the nine-day Bronze Medallion training where all staff experienced hands-on training, covering topics such as:

Swimming
Front crawl, breaststroke, scissors kick, life-saving kick.

Defensive Technique
Push-up break, arm pull, elbow break, duck away, single leg block.

Use of Equipment
Towel, pole, rope, life buoy (floater).

CPR
EAR (Emergency Acute Resuscitation), ECC (Emergency Chest Compression).

The objective behind the training was to certify all Activities staff and also staff of other departments with a Bronze Medallion Certificate, to create awareness about water safety and rescue techniques plus CPR. 'We are proud that our staff can gain more knowledge on lifesaving techniques. It is important for them to learn about safety procedures, and we encourage them to uplift their skills and to make full use of their abilities. More training programmes are in store for our staff to ensure achievement of excellence in service within our Resort,' said Human Resources Manager Mr Abdul Halik Ibrahim.
