Resort's New Fire Evacuation Procedures

Tuesday 7th March 2006, Penang

Parkroyal Penang has revamped its fire evacuation procedures to ascertain more positive and accurate fire safety enforcement. A fire evacuation procedures one-day training session was held at the hotel's Pandan Room recently for some 100 of its staff.

"The reason for this presentation and discussion is to introduce and enforce our new emergency command group as well as to run through the responsive procedures of the individual command group," explained resort general manager Mark Losi who is also the command group manager-in-charge. "It is important that this operation is on standby 24-hours a day, 7 days a week in the hotel. The list of procedures are consistently practiced here at Parkroyal, and the key functions are applicable throughout amongst the eight major roles in the command group," he added.

"Safety is importantly recognized at Parkroyal, and health and safety training programmes are regularly conducted for staff members to ensure a high knowledge of excellent safety skills and most importantly, in providing good quality service to our guests," explained resort safety and security manager Kunalan Balasubramaniam. "We have in store new sets of materials and equipment such as handphones, pagers, walkie talkies, bright colored vests to mark the command group person-in-charge plus whistles, for our emergency response team to ensure a smooth evacuation system."

According to resort human resources manager, Abdul Halik Ibrahim, numerous staff training programmes are often carried out on a monthly basis to maintain service excellence within the resort.
