Two Pastry Chefs from PARKROYAL Penang Resort proved to be the best in baking during the recent Pastry & Pizza Challenge 2012 organized by Fonterra Foodservices. Pastry Chef Eric Cheam and Junior Sous Chef Kuet Ean Ean clinched the Gold and Bronze Award respectively in the Cake Competition held in Kuala Lumpur recently.
More than 60 participants took part in this competition but only seven were selected to compete in the final round in Kuala Lumpur. In the Cake Competition Challenge, participants were required to bake and design two cakes based on the theme of Classical Modern. They were given three hours to prepare and judging is based on speciality and innovation.
Pastry Chef Eric swept the gold award with his creation of Praline Royal. His winning ingredients include soursop, Anchor’s cream cheese and hazelnut. The cake was then covered with chocolate sauce and decorated with chocolate shavings. Junior Sous Chef Kuet Ean Ean’s creation was named Season Mangosteen Delight. Using mangosteen, Anchor’s cream cheese and pistachio sponge as base, and topped with purple glazine, her creation was a pretty sight indeed.
Besides winning some cash prizes and a trophy, Chef Eric also received a training course sponsored by HTC French Institute.
