PARKROYAL Penang Resort and Rotary Club of Penang have joined forces to welcome a team of very dedicated and passionate riders of Ride2Rescue, who are on a journey across the globe for an epic cause.
Ride2Rescue is made up of a team of cyclists who are cycling from London, England to Melbourne, Australia in order to raise funds and awareness for child trafficking and raise much needed funds for World Vision Australia. Their journey will cover over 24,000km and one of their stops includes Penang, Malaysia. The team coming to Penang consists of 6 brave riders, who are John Clark, Daniel Seehusen, Aaron Turner, Tim Holman, Kathryn Audsley and Karina Ottosen.
PARKROYAL Penang Resort and Rotary Club of Penang are honored to be supporting this cause. “Child trafficking is a serious threat that occurs every day and it is even more alarming to realize that Malaysia is reported to be a destination as well as a source country for human trafficking,” said Mr. Francois Sigrist, General Manager of PARKROYAL Penang Resort. “As such, this welcome reception is to help spread the word by creating awareness and collecting donations. All 100% of the proceeds collected are donated to World Vision Malaysia,” he continued.
He also announced that the sister property, PARKROYAL Kuala Lumpur and other Rotary Clubs in Malaysia will also be supporting the riders as they proceed on their journey to Kuala Lumpur.
Approximately 250 cyclists, coordinated by G Club Penang Cyclists, gathered at Beach Street and gave a warm welcome to the riders as they arrived early in the morning. They then escorted them in style and together cycled to PARKROYAL Penang Resort. All cyclists who participated in this event were also given a Milano t-shirt sponsored by Manland (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd.
During the welcome reception held at PARKROYAL Penang Resort’s Andaman Grand Ballroom, the riders of Ride2Rescue also introduced themselves and gave a short presentation of their objectives of this campaign. The Rotary Club of Penang then proceeded to hand over the donations collected in the morning, amounting to RM2200 to Mr. Liew Tong Ngan, CEO of World Vision Malaysia.
During lunch hosted by the resort, the cyclists also took the opportunity to mingle with the riders of Ride2Rescue and took photographs with them.
