Winners of 'PARKROYAL Youth Art Award 2008' Announced

The organizing committee is happy to announce the winners of 'PARKROYAL Youth Art Award 2008'.  Theme of the competition was “Life and Culture of Myanmar”.  PARKROYAL Yangon initiated this event and it was organized by PARKROYAL Yangon and co-organized by Sun Flower Art Gallery.  The competition was held from 25 April 2008 to 31 July 2008.
 
The competition was for two age categories, between 12 to 14 years old and between 15 to 20 years old. The participants were invited to submit their paintings to PARKROYAL Yangon.  A total of 93 participants entered the competition.  Twelve participants from 1st age category and 10 participants from 2nd age category were shortlisted as finalists by the judging panel that comprises of U Maung Maung Thein (Pathein), U Thant Sin @ Artist Hla Tin Tun, U Kyi Winn, U Maung Maung Hla Myint and U Kyaw Thaung.       
 
On 21 August 2008, the finalists were required to showcase their painting skills under observation of the judging panel for level of excellence.  The media were invited to view the judging.  The decision of the judges were announced at the prize award ceremony.
 
The prize presentation ceremony was held on 27September 2008 at Grand Ballroom, PARKROYAL Yangon.  Shortlisted candidates, panel of judges, representatives from PARKROYAL Yangon, representatives from Sun Flower Art Gallery, guests of honor and the media attended the ceremony.
 
“We are very proud to sponsor and organize this youth art competition and our aim is to help the talents of young Myanmar artists. This is our first youth art competition and we hope to make it an annual event,” said Mr Teddy Chia, General Manager of PARKROYAL Yangon.

The winners of this event are :

  • For 12 to 14 years age category - Ma Khine May Thu (1st prize), Mg Kaung Htet Kyaw (2nd prize), Ma Aye Pyae Sone Phuu (3rd prize), Ma Yin Thuzar Aung (consolation prize), Ma Aye Myat Thu (consolation prize), Ma Shun Myit Mo Oo (consolation prize)
  • For 15 to 20 years age category -  Ma The Su Hlaing (1st prize), Mg Htet Aung (2nd prize), Mg Kaung Lwin Oo (3rd prize), Ma Zin Mar Nyein (consolation prize), Mg Tu Tu @ Way Yan (consolation prize), Naw Phaw Law L (consolation prize).

As a leading hotel in Myanmar, we strongly believed that we should promote social responsibility and PARKROYAL Yangon has chosen to develop the artistic talents of the young Myanmar painters through this competition.
