Famished from all your travelling? Feast your senses at Kuala Lumpur's bustling night markets.
Also known as pasar malams, KL’s night markets feature streets upon streets of aromatic spicy food, colourful apparels, and household vendors’ stalls on an ad hoc basis. Open from 4:00pm onwards during Ramadan, stall holders pause around 7:00pm to 7:30pm for the ceremonial breaking of fast before continuing their trade and ending at 11:00pm.
Kampung Baru, Taman Tun Dr Ismail, and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman are just three of many Ramadan bazaars in KL. Visit in the beginning of the Ramadan month when crowds are less intense.
Tuck into local delights such as satay, lamb and chicken kebabs, murtabak (stuffed pan-fried bread), grilled lamb, fried chicken, fried fish, popiah (Chinese-style spring rolls), and more at these stalls. You can also satisfy your sweet tooth with dessert foods such as pandan pancakes, sweet pudding, kuih (traditional sticky cake), chendol (iced dessert with palm sugar and coconut milk), and agar-agar (jelly or pudding) at these village-style shopping spots.
You can also bring home unique merchandise from local markets. Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman Ramadan Bazaar near Masjid India, for example, is known for its textiles, baju kurung (traditional Malay outfits) wares, and dates eaten during the breaking of the fast.
