More about Inya Lake

Created by the British as a water reservoir in 1883 to provide a water supply to Yangon, much of Inya Lake remains the same today as it did back then. With opportunities to swim, row, sail and golf, Inya Lake offers a plethora of activities for couples or families enjoying time together on a day out.

The area surrounding the lake is home to the Yangon Sailing Club, as well as to expensive estates belonging to Aung San Suu Kyi and the U.S. Ambassador.

Adjacent to the lake and next to Yangon University is the 37-acre Inya Park, conducive for young local couples looking for some romantic time together. Sample a range of delicious local and international hawker fare from the small food stalls in the southwest corner of the Lake, or purchase a trinket or two from the fascinating shops that pepper the area.
