ABOUT THE KABA AYE PAGODA

Enclosed in a cave-like structure, the circular platform around the main stupa features five porches decorated with traditional lotus flowers, buds and the swastika motif. The main stupa itself is about 35 metres high with smaller pagodas on the five porches.

Within the grounds of this pagoda explorers can find the intriguing Maha Pasana Cave, otherwise known as “The Great Cave of Stone”. Built at the same time as the pagoda, the beautiful man-made structure has six gates in commemoration of the Sixth Great Synod and was created as a replica of the Satta Panni Cave of India, where the first Buddhist Synod was held.
